Alternative Dispute Resolution. A high delegation of government officials, justices, judges and jurists from Bosnia-Herzegovina has been informed in our offices about ADR and mediation in the Netherlands on September 18th.

On the initiative of the American Bar Association, the US Agency for international development and the Amsterdam ADR Institute the delegation visited the Netherlands. A great number of authorities and organisations provided it with information. It is Bosnia's intention to inaugurate a legal framework for mediation within a short period.

Because of CMS Derks Star Busmann's prominent position in the field of alternative dispute resolution, the organisers have requested it to inform the delegation about the role of lawyers in mediation. Our attorneys Mrs. Ankie Spronk and Mr. John Bosnak, member of the Dutch Association of Family Lawyers and Mediators and certified NMI Mediator respectively, provided presentations about mediation in family and commercial Disputes.

Alternative Dispute Resolution is one of the specialist areas in which CMS Derks Star Busmann is active. We provide all our associates with compulsory courses, in which they are trained to identify the proper method of dispute resolution which suits the client and his problem in the best way. This should not necessarily be litigation in all cases: sometimes other means of dispute resolution, like for instance mediation, can be more in the clients' interest. Furthermore, the lawyers and tax specialists are trained how to represent their clients' interests in the appropriate dispute resolution arena. The deputy civil law notaries receive a separate training which is specifically tailored to their situation.
